The Justice Department said Friday that it had approved the proposed tie-up of United and Continental airlines, after an unexpectedly speedy four-month review that paves the way for the merger to close before Thanksgiving.

The FSA negotiating committee met with the CAL negotiating team in Houston this week for the third round of talks. In this meeting, we passed 11 proposals to the company which constitutes virtually the entire non-economic proposal.

The FSA negotiating committee met in Houston Tx. this week to work on finalizing our non economic proposal to CAL. We were able to complete articles on Uniforms, Field Trips, Sick Leave and Occupational Injury, Filling of Vacancies, Seniority, Covered Craft and Classification, Part Time, and Reduction in Force and Recall. We will be meeting with the Company again the week of August 16 to present our non-economic package.

Teamster negotiators have reached an agreement with Continental for a just-cause provision for all fleet service workers, which takes effect immediately. Just-cause agreements provide important protections against arbitrary or unfair termination and other forms of inappropriate workplace discipline.
